Framed by the banks of Lake Schwerin and the Classical facade of the magnificent Ducal Stables or “Marstall”, this is where you’ll find the Stables Garden during the 2009 German Federal Horticultural Exhibition in Schwerin. A sea of flowers in every conceivable shape and colour will dominate the scene as the latest trends in plant breeding and visionary ideas for garden design are presented in an open park landscape planted with picturesque groups of trees. Garden rooms are incorporated into the sweeping areas of lawn like little islands; these will pick up on the huge variety of possibilities for garden design and will primarily act as a source of inspiration to amateur gardeners for the design of their allotments or domestic gardens.
Shrubs, roses and seasonal plantings as well as specialist themes such as dahlias will give the impression of a carpet of flowers, contrasted with the quiet areas along the edge of the lake. From here you can look out right across Lake Schwerin with its sailboats quietly gliding by, and then as you look to the south your attention is caught by the impressive silhouette of the Castle.
From the Stables Peninsula there is a pontoon link to the Lakeside Garden, giving visitors the opportunity to enjoy the lake, the Castle and the Garden Festival gardens in a very special way – another example of that Schwerin flair!
